Vlog, Vlog, Vlog

This article could NOT have come at a better time. I am writing a research paper for my visual rhetoric class about Vlogs! This New York Times article of course, made it in my paper.

TV Stardom on $20 a Day

AMANDA CONGDON is a big star on really small screens - like the 4½- inch window she appears in on computer monitors every weekday morning or the 2½ inches she has to work with on the new video iPod. Ms. Congdon, you see, is the anchor of a daily, three-minute, mock TV news report shot on a camcorder, edited on a laptop and posted on a blog called Rocketboom, which now reaches more than 100,000 fans a day.

Vlog and Blog

Steve Garfield has an interesting snippet from Amanda Cogden, from Rocketboom.com on vlogs. Amanda makes some very important points about the idea behind her successful vlog, Rocketboom.com that I think is important to citizen journalism.

Here is the link to her statement about Rocketboom.com and citizen journalism.

And the Oscar goes to…

And the Emmy for best actor on iPods goes to …

LOS ANGELES–The newest award in broadcasting excellence gives new meaning to the line Gloria Swanson made famous in “Sunset Boulevard”: “I am big. It’s the pictures that got small.”

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, best known for handing out the Daytime Emmy Awards, is expected to announce on Tuesday that it has created an award category to recognize original video content for computers, cell phones and other handheld devices, like the video iPod and PlayStation Portable.

Paris 2005: Part II

Paris 2005: Part II

Here is only a part of what I saw at the Louvre. I also kept taking video of the ceiling which you’ll see towards the end. The ceiling in the Louvre is just as striking as the art on the walls. The place is amazing and there really is no way to capture the emotions I felt when I roamed the Louvre’s halls.

The song used is Paris from Faith Hill’s newest CD: Fireflies

Donna and Janet: A corner discussion

without comments

Donna and Janet on a London Streetcorner near the Holbert Underground station. I have NO idea why we were just standing there. Here’s a little background: It was our FIRST full day in London. We were really tired and we were giddy. That same night we thought we should go see the broadway show Mary Poppins. Boy, were we in for a surprise when Mary Poppins was NOT a spoonful of sugar, but more like a doseful of Ambien. This video shows Donna and me on a street corner, why, I’m not quite sure. Enjoy! More Europe is to come as I sort through our video.

Must See Vlog

without comments

I am addicted to the Steve and Carol show or is it the Carol and Steve show. Both Carol and Steve are fun to watch and I find myself watching episodes not realizing what time it really is. I highly recommend you checking out Steve Garfield’s Vlog.

My favorite Steve Garfield post is the one that he tells a Boston newspaper reporter that “we are the media.” The entry is called “It works that way now.” I highly recommend you watching that entry because it tells a lot about how citizens are turning the cameras literally back on to the media… it’s awesome!

Vloggers recording Norway election

without comments

A vlogger (a blogger who uses video) is literally recording Norway’s elections. Again, Citizen journalism at its best.

Vloggers get political in Norway

At a recent campaign event ahead of the elections, the leader of the Liberal Party did a photo-op with a local businessman in Bergen. While the mainstream media gathered around to record sound bites, Kristiansen stood in the background, taping the entire event with his small camcorder.

We don’t need the mainstream media to tell us what’s interesting anymore,” he says. “Millions of people want to tell their stories, and with video-blogging, they can tell their stories.”
