Generation Xers Twitter, but students don’t…

by Dr. Janet Johnson on January 15, 2010

This first week of school had one challenge: Convince students Twitter is not stupid. It amazed me how very few students didn’t know how Twitter works. I think Twitter is for Generation X–my generation. I believe we wanted a technology like this for a long time. We understand the value of the technology and the potential of what it can do in our lives. I believe my students take technology for granted. I enjoy connecting and conversing with people via Twitter. In fact, I am going to an academic conference with people I met via twitter. The networking ability it creates is limitless if used correctly. I can’t wait to graduate with my PhD to explore the influence Twitter has on the media. I am excited to become an independent scholar who tracks technology as a communication venue that creates micro-media outlets!
