My Photography Journey: Assignment #2

by Dr. Janet Johnson on June 5, 2010

Last week, the photography instructor did not critique our photos. I’m hoping the next class he will discuss our pictures that I took in the previous post. By the way I chose 5, 8, and 10 to show to the class, since they were the ones everyone commented on first. So, thank you facebook friends and students for helping me decide.

This week’s assignment was to take three pictures with a small aperture, medium aperture, and the largest aperture setting. So, I took three shots of my day lilies to try to create depth of field. We were supposed to focus on the center at all times. Here’s what I came up with.

I like that your f/11 and f/5.3 photos focus the background flower and puts the foreground flower out-of-focus rather than the background flower. Very creative approach!

I shot several versions, but this turned out to be my favorite one… it had many dimensions to it.
