Photography Journey: Assignment 4

by Dr. Janet Johnson on June 23, 2010

This past week’s photography assignment was to take three action shots.

1. Peak

2. Pan

3. Control

I am not interested in honing my action shots. Usually, action shots taken by me are accidental. I found through this assignment if I thought about action, the action did not happen. I do not have kids, and I do not play sports. Moreover, I was not going to stand on the side of the road in 100 degree heat to catch a car going by… so I used my poodle, Lucy. When you give Lucy enough treats, she will do anything!

Here are the shots I did get. I can’t say they were any of the three the photographer instructor requested, but I did my best!

Jason has been playing around with panning as well. Very cool effect :) you should start a photo blog in addition to cyber rhetoric :)

The first one looks good cropped, Janet! My favorite is the panning… And I have to say, even tho’ it’s a cliche, “I love Lucy”! :) My 16 yr. old cat was not interested in jumping for treats. Imagine that! I think this week’s lighting assignments will be more interesting (and practical) than action.

I liked the first one cropped too. I will start doing that if he wants us too. I thought he wanted us not to crop because I crop pictures to get the right effect.

@Theresa, another blog? Oh my! I don’t know if I can keep up two blogs, but it’s a good idea. I can add another wordpress blog to my web site.

He did ask us not to crop/edit, which is making me think more carefully about how I frame things. However, true confession….I cropped my peak motion shot. Not that it mattered, ’cause that one was no good anyway! :) (sorry about the double post before…was trying to remove my last name and it posted a second time. oooops!)

I don’t think it’s a big deal. I really believe cropping and fixing photos is also in the process of good photos now. We have the capability so we might as well use it! By the way, I deleted the comment with your last name :-)

I have taken my transparency shot. I had a glass of wine and noticed how pretty the light was shining through the glass so I took several shots of the glass. I got a cool shot and will use that as one example. Now I only have 3 more shots to go! I like this lighting assignment so much better.
