Photography Journey: Assignment 5

by Dr. Janet Johnson on June 24, 2010

This week’s assignment focuses on lighting. We were assigned to do four types of photos.

1. Silhouette

2. Side lighting

3. Transparent

4. Anything with cool lighting. Taking a picture of a shadow was suggested.

Yesterday I toyed with taking a picture of a glass of wine. The color was pretty in the crystal wine glass so I had to take the opportunity to capture the refreshing beverage.

Here’s Lucy with side lighting. I got this the other day when we were taking action shots. I had no idea it might work for this week’s assignment.

LOVE the wine glass pic! Beautifully framed! I especially like that you can see the shadow of the window frame in the wine. I too am enjoying lighting SO much more than action. And I agree…post-editing is part of the creative process. His suggestion that we not edit has caused me to be more careful and thoughtful about how I frame to begin. Ultimately, I would like to learn to take better photos that need less editing.

I too love the lighting assignment stay tuned for my sillouhette pictures soon. I have not turned in one edited picture for class. I too want to learn to frame in the picture–but that comes with practice.
