I played with the contrast on the pictures below to give the shadows a more dramatic effect. The pictures are the most popular ones from my survey from my previous post.
These are really nice Janet! Did you know you can edit in RAW in PSE even if you shoot jpg? I prefer editing in RAW…more options and it’s easier to see what you’re getting.
If you saw how I took the pictures and where–you would laugh! I wanted to create a scene and will show the shadow one in class for ambiguity. I love all three pictures. It was hard to decide. As you can tell– I have a lot of free time on my hands now that I am not writing the dissertation!
I”ve been hunting down shadows outside this week and it didn’t even occur to me to use something indoors. Great idea! I love the significance of the object ….very meaningful. I also like all 3, but think my favorite is #3. I especially like how you only included the lamp in actuality and finished the subject out in shadow. Very creative! I think shadow was my least favorite of the assignments (maybe because he seemed rather pointed about suggesting what we did for “free choice”.
Yes, I’ve been doing the blog for a few months now…It started as a vehicle to share pics of our granddaughter with my mom in AZ. I had no idea how much I would enjoy posting pics of anything/everything. I post the good, the bad and the ugly so my niece and her friend (accomplished photographers) can comment and help me learn. If you’re interested and have a few minutes, check out the link on my blog to LC Photography…Lisa is incredibly creative. I LOVE her work! My strawberry pic from last week was an idea I got from an old post of hers. Of course, she got the idea from a pop photography magazine.
Looking forward to hearing where/how you took your shadow pics.
It didn’t occur to me to use something indoors until yesterday. I kept thinking where could I go to find good shadows? Then I looked through a photography book I had and they had pitchers with deep shadows against a white wall… so I started looking for neat stuff to cast shadows on walls. I set shop up in the hallway… so space was limited and Lucy kept wanting to be in the middle of the action. So, I was trying NOT to get my shadow in the pic and then Lucy licking me. It was funny. I took a lot of shots. These were the best ones. I am picking #3 to show to the class. It’s my favorite picture out of all of them. I thought about showing #1, but I really like the story of #3. I also like #2 a lot too because it evokes a bit of emotion… but #3 really makes me the lantern stand out, since she IS the Angel of Hope who will guide you through the rough patches in your life.

Very cool. I have not tried that yet. I have to try it.
saw your twitter…we keep saying we are going to shoot raw, but I know it takes up a lot of space.
