Photography Journey: Unexpected July 4th activities

by Dr. Janet Johnson on July 3, 2010

Today my dad and I drove to Rockwall to go to the Farmer’s Market. We found ourselves watching a July 4th parade. The parade was VERY short, but the unexpected parade put me in the patriotic spirit. Here are some shots from the parade and the Farmer’s Market. I found that cloudy/hazy/icky weather is hard to meter. Some of my pictures looked overexposed, but that means I must practice more! Please help me choose my three pictures to show to my photography class this week. It’s the last class!

Well, my favorite for sure is 8…beautiful depth of field, nice color and composition. I also like 12, 15, 13, and 21 (tho’ not necessarily in that order). Nice pics Janet! Cloudy days can be good if it stays cloudy all the time…but when it’s changing all the time it’s challenging…you set your exposure, then the light changes because the sun goes behind a cloud or comes out and everything changes. I haven’t done it yet, but am toying with the idea of trying shutter priority or aperture priority on days like this. It would be faster for sure…half the time, I miss the action while I’m messing with the meter. Looks like a fun parade. Hope you had a good time! ….Oh yes…great job catching the interaction of the dogs! I just didn’t choose that one because the background is distracting. See you tomorrow…

Hey Janet…quick question. I’m getting ready to post my lighting assignment pics soon. Would it be OK for me to include a link to your post about your shadow pic?

Thanks for your comments today Janet. Good to hear from you again. How did you do shooting your family that visited? Hope to see some pics later. Either way, hope there were good times together!
